Tamu: Your donations reach the borderlands
North to south, east to west, the entire country of Myanmar is united in their struggle for freedom against the military takeover, and your donations are giving them a lifeline to continue their struggle for freedom. Although it has taken a good deal of time and effort, your donations have just managed to reach Tamu, a small town in the northern part of the country, located in the Sagaing Division and resting on the Indian border.
Historically, Tamu has been a transport hub along with Moreh, its Indian counterpart. Not only India, however, goods from here also reach into Thailand and China as well. In addition to Bamar, many Chin and other ethnic peoples are also found in Tamu. Prior to February 1st, the community here was known as being pleasant and friendly, and the town famous for its cleanliness and beautiful aesthetic. And above all else, back when things were calmer, visitors always made sure to attend its famous open-aired markets.
However, like the rest of the country, they have not been able to escape the terror of the Tatmadaw. Just yesterday, a Gurkha couple was shot and killed while selling milk from their farm. And a few days ago, a 7 year old girl was shot with live ammunition and Zabuyadana Monastery was raided and attacked with rocket propelled-grenades.
Although far from the geographical center of the country, many Tamu residents were at the forefront of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). Being far away, however, it has been very difficult to support their effort, and it is thanks to your generosity, along with the courage of volunteers on the ground, that they these funds are now able to reach them.
